Chapter 1

Once upon a time, in a town not too far from here.
Lived two sisters, who at this point, had little to fear.

Unaware were these two,
Of the adventure that was about to ensue.

The wind whispered a tale –
A battle in glorious detail.

The tide and the ocean waves became something of terror,
Having predicted the oncoming of a new era.

With the twin girl’s father far away,
Their mother worked all night and day.

So, Jo and Hanna with very little to do –
Argued…as sisters often do.

“Hanna, what do you mean you flushed the dead fish down the toilet? That’s so bad for the environment!” I exclaimed.
“I mean I flushed the fish down the toilet Jo!”
“Hanna is that your tenth fish this month?” I asked.
“In all fairness Jo, it was my seventh,” she pouted.
“You have been keeping count!”
“Well, I did name it ‘Seven’ for a reason.”
“Really? I’m just amazed that you can count,” I said sarcastically.
“Ohhh, that was counting I thought it was part of the alphabet: A, B, C, D, L, M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, 7 and Z,” Hanna mocked, speaking in a dumb voice and putting particular emphasis on the ‘7 and Z’.

In the middle of our argument, our mother came in the door having finished her night shift at the police station. “Stop fighting. Are you girls ready to go to school?”
“Eghh yes,” I grumbled in reply.
“I have to go back to the station again I forgot some paperwork, so I’ll be dropping you off in the police car again, is that alright?” our mother asked.
“Eww not again, drop me off first, I don’t want to be seen getting out of a cop’s car,” Hanna turned up her nose while exiting the house.
“Do you care Jo?” my mother said turning to me.
“Not at all, I like the car. Besides, ease and simplicity over extravagant stupidity,” I finished looking at Hanna, questioning all her life choices regarding society’s standards.
“So, I take it you’re not going to brush your hair today either?” Mum queried.

To my mothers’ words, I arched my eyebrows with a sideways smile while proceeding to get in the vehicle with my untamed hair.
“I’m as much avoiding this car by getting out early, as I am you,” Hanna said pointing her finger up and down at my attire.
